Mohonk Preserve: The Testimonial Gateway was built to commemorate the 50^th wedding anniversary of Albert and Eliza Smiley; dedicated in 1908 it served as the eastern entrance to the Mohonk Mountain House, from New Paltz until 1945. Now it serves as a trailhead entrance to a tree-lined Pin Oak Allee and the Mohonk Preserve. If an onlooker gazes carefully, once through the stone structure arch, on a clear day in view are Lenape Lane, the Shawangunks, and Sky Top. Below is an autumn watercolor of this historic gateway.

About us:

CatskillWatersArt features the landscape paintings of Lois Ostapczuk.

Her husband Ed is a trout fisher with a digital camera. Lois often uses his photographs to create the artwork of Catskill waters displayed here. Though this husband and wife pair may work in tandem, Lois is truly the heart and soul of CatskillWatersArt.

Lois has painted since childhood; however, upon retiring from teaching elementary school in 2008 she has sought to improve her abilities. In her early days Lois was mostly self-taught, then with help from friends at Olive's Senior Art Class her passion blossomed. She has since taken classes and workshops offered by: the Arts Society of Kingston, Woodstock School of Art, and Mira Fink, where she expanded into the use of watercolors. With guided instruction, and passage of time, Lois developed a looser brush stroke than that of her early days. Currently Lois uses water mixable oils and watercolors to create her artwork of watercourses, mountains, landscapes, and other topics of interest.

CatskillWatersArt is an extension of the passions of two individuals who have lived in the Catskills since 1973, wandering these mountains and enjoying their noted water resources.

Artwork pricing guide:

Artwork prices are based upon two simple premises. First, Lois loves to paint and we have limited wall space in our home to display her work. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, it gives Lois great pleasure to see others enjoy the fruits of her efforts. Thus while prices might vary slightly from painting to painting, in general unframed CatskillWatersArt is priced based upon canvas dimensions:

16” x 20” $100
18” x 24” $125

Frames are extra, unless a painting is displayed in a frame. All artwork requiring shipping to the buyer will also incur the cost of standard U.S. postal service priority mail shipping rates.
